My name is Ashley and I am 16 years old. I am a volunteer guide dog puppy raiser! As a volunteer puppy raiser, I get an 8 week old puppy and raise it until around 15-18 months. I teach basic obedience, socialization, and how it should behave in public situations where a service dog would be. Once the dog is grown, I return them to the guide dog campus in California for formal guide dog training with the hope that one day, the dog that I loved for over a year, will graduate and change a blind or visually impaired persons life. This video is about my journey raising Dan, my first guide dog puppy. We grew to be the best of friends. He was my partner in crime and my shadow. Saying goodbye to him was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. When Dan was career changed, it broke my heart. I felt as though I failed him. I then realized that everything happens for a reason because now Dan is happy and exactly where he was meant to be. Even though Dan is not a guide dog, I feel proud of my accomplishment in raising such an amazing dog. I also document our whole journey on my Instagram- @Fosteringpuppies
